There was a great article written in the Los Angeles Times on February 4th about the benefits of massage therapy. Titled, "Massage study goes deep", researcher Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky of the McMaster University in Ontario, Canada led a study on the cellular effects of exercise and how massage can inhibit inflammation by dampening a protein released called NF-kB. It also boosted another protein that helped to build mitochondia and the stress adaptation to exercise. The article also talked about the benefits of more research so as to legitimizes massage as medically important and that insurance companies should offer massage as a preventative, complimentary measure. |
